DESCRIPTION:Advent Quiet Day\n\n\n\nNovember 20\, 2026\n\n\n\n\n10:00 am\n4:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n£20\n\n\n\n\nThis special day during Advent will be using the O Antiphons to help us enter a time of contemplation. \nThese special verses dating back to the 6th century are normally used on the last seven days of Advent in Western Christianity and have become a key part of choral music in the days leading up to Christmas. Many of us have been introduced to them in some form in the hymn O Come O Come Emmanuel. \nUsing art\, music and poetry we will be using these scriptural verses to help us express our longing for the Christ Child and to pray for the transformation we want him to create both in ourselves and the world. \nLisa Moore Wilson\, Minister for the United Reformed Church will be leading the day. Her particular areas of interest are showing God’s love through community projects and hospitality and – helping others to find the still small voice of God in a busy world through meditation\, retreats and contemplative prayer.

Throughout the poem\, Wordsworth emphasises emotion\, spirituality and a deep connection to the natural world.\nKate’s workshop will allow participants to explore emotions\, spirituality and the subtle intuitions of awe\, peace and sublimity inspired by nature. Her approach is accessible and practice-based\, enabling participants to express emotions through both words and images. Participants will make connections between visual arts\, poetry and the beautiful landscape around Rydal Hall\, delving into the imagery of artists including William Wordsworth and William Blake. \nKate will lead the group so that participants are given the space and time to make visual art\, to write and to wander in\, and to wonder at\, the countryside around Rydal Hall. The workshop will be a full experience over the course of two days.\nAs a group\, and individually\, participants will explore the nature of permanence\, transience and faith\, participating in a gentle and intuitive combination of contemplative artistic practices.\nParticipants will express themselves through the word and create visual art using traditional materials such as pastels\, charcoal and paint as well as transient art incorporating elements of nature.
