We will enjoy times of contemplative Christian worship\, guided birdwatching walks and reflections on some of the birds featured in the Bible\, such as doves\, eagles\, the raven and owl. \nKilmalieu is managed by the Abernethy Trust and occupies a stunning position on the shore of Loch Linnhe\, south of Fort William. Also\, for those seeking to refresh their experience of ODRs.  The weekend will be experienced on two levels: firstly\, you will have authentic experience as a retreatant\, and secondly\, thorough guidance on facilitating/leading an ODR.  All materials will be provided. Participants should have knowledge of Ignatian spirituality\, some training and experience in spiritual direction\, and ideally attend as pairs with the person with whom they hope to facilitate. ODRs are always facilitated in pairs. \nThe Open Door Retreat (ODR) was designed in 1980 by two sisters of the Cenacle Community.  Based on the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola it is a creative\, flexible\, prayer journey and a wonderful way to make space for reflection ‘in daily life’. It is gentle and non-threatening\, and suitable for all who want to enhance and deepen their relationship with God. The Open Door Retreat involves a (one and a half to -two-hour) weekly session for nine weeks. Sessions are experiential in nature and include music\, art\, poetry\, reflection\, and sharing – firstly from the ‘team’ of two\, and gradually from participants.

DESCRIPTION:Throughout the year\, our Garden Working Parties bring together volunteers who share a heart for service\, community\, and caring for God’s creation. These special events are a wonderful opportunity to refresh the grounds of our Retreat Centre while building friendships and enjoying time together in a peaceful and welcoming setting. \nThis year\, volunteers will be gathering on the following dates:March 23 to 26July 6 to 9October 12 to 15 \nDuring each working party\, volunteers help with planting flowers\, tidying pathways\, maintaining garden beds\, and preparing outdoor spaces for guests who come to the centre seeking rest and renewal. Every task\, whether large or small\, plays an important part in making the Retreat Centre a place of beauty\, peace\, and hospitality. \nAll accommodation and meals are provided\, allowing volunteers to focus fully on serving and enjoying fellowship. Days are filled with practical work\, shared meals\, prayer\, and meaningful conversations. Many who attend say that these times of working together are just as refreshing for the soul as they are productive for the gardens. \nThe Garden Working Parties are also part of our wider Helping Hands ministry. Alongside gardening\, volunteers often support the centre by baking\, preparing refreshments\, welcoming guests\, decorating indoor spaces\, and assisting during events. Everyone is encouraged to use their own skills and talents to help strengthen and grow the ministry. \nWe are deeply thankful for every person who gives their time and energy to support the Retreat Centre in this way. The impact of these working parties is seen not only in the gardens but in the lives of those who serve and those who later come to enjoy this peaceful place. \nIf you would like to be part of one of our upcoming Garden Working Parties\, we would love to hear from you. DESCRIPTION:Event Details\n\nDate: October 12 – 15\, 2026\n\n\n\n\nArrive Monday 12th October from 3.00 pm.\nDepart Thursday 15th October after breakfast\n\nCost: tbc\n\nAbout the retreat\n\n500 years ago St Ignatius of Loyola launched his Jesuits upon the world. They quickly became the “shock troops” of the Catholic Church. Over the next few centuries Jesuits concentrated largely on schools and mission work.\n\nHowever\, after the Second Vatican Council they changed radically\, became concerned for social justice\, opened out to a larger world and made the Spiritual Exercises\, which had been the real dynamic of their life\, available to the world\, to priests\, religious\, lay people and non-Catholics.\n\nThe Exercises turn out to be wonderful spirituality for those living busy lives in this over busy world. It is a spirituality of the market place\, teaching us to hold on to Christ\, to God\, in the multifarious demands\, noises and distractions of our daily lives.\n\nMirfield has offered Individually Guided Retreats in the Ignatian tradition for the last twenty years.    This will be a retreat with addresses based around some of the key points of the Exercises for those who would like to know more about how it works\, and what this mysterious Ignatian dynamic is about.\nJesuits are well known for their focus on good discernment of the Will of God in daily life.    Here is how they get there.\n\nIt will be led by Fr Nicolas Stebbing CR
