Their first EP with the lead single ‘Wade in the water’ has gained over 10 million views on YouTube\, clearly there was a niche in the market and The Spirituals found it. The reimagining of spiritual anthems and songs is their speciality and fans across the world love it. How can we be inspired without being demoralised\, and how is God inviting us to live out our own call to sainthood? This day will explore the stories of the saints and their spiritualities\, and the fact and fiction which surrounds them. We will pray about and ponder the fact that they were real\, imperfect people\, and\, using the Gospels\, poetry and the writings of Thomas Merton\, consider the part they can play today in inspiring us to love God with all our hearts\, souls and minds\, and our neighbours as ourselves. \nStarts at 10am and finishes at 4pm. DESCRIPTION:Meditation in the Christian tradition is an ancient and simple way of prayer. \nOur purpose is to teach meditation as a simple path to peace\, community and oneness. Our vision is to help people establish peace in themselves and become places of peace in the world. \nEach session includes a short talk\, a period of silent meditation practice (preceded by some basic guidelines for anyone who is new)\, and an opportunity for conversation afterwards. \nThe sessions are guided by Chris Whittington. Chris spent a period of formation at Prinknash Abbey Benedictine Monastery and is the Founder of The School of Contemplative Life. \nYou don’t need to bring anything – just yourself. Try to find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed.

SUMMARY:IGR at Abernethy Kilmalieu
DESCRIPTION:‘Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray’ (Luke 5:16). This is an opportunity to do just that. An individually guided retreat at Kilmalieu involves stepping away from the noise of a busy world to focus on our relationship with God. Participants are invited to join in the daily rhythm of prayer with the Kilmalieu Team and are offered opportunities for guidance\, spiritual accompaniment and/or coaching. In addition\, there is lots of time and space to pray\, reflect and enjoy the rugged beauty of the mountains\, the coastline and the woodlands that characterise the Kilmalieu estate.   \nThis retreat can be booked for either 3 or 4 nights. The retreat is fully catered\, starting with dinner after arrival on Friday and ending with breakfast before you leave on day of departure. Food is home-made and consistently praised for its quality. Guests have access to a small library\, art room\, lounge\, chapel and gym and are free to explore the 3000 acre estate\, where otters\, seals\, a diverse range of trees and birds\, lichens\, ferns and many other aspects of nature can be enjoyed.

Drawing on the words of Jesus — “Abide in my love” (John 15) — we will explore what it means to remain rooted rather than restless\, receptive rather than driven.\nLed by our Rydal Chaplain\, Rev LB\, the day will unfold gently\, with simple creative practices: perhaps holding a small branch as we pray\, noticing the hidden life within it; perhaps writing a brief “rule of abiding” for the months ahead; perhaps sitting quietly beside water\, allowing its steady presence to teach us something about constancy.\nThe Middle Eastern scholar Kenneth E. Bailey reminds us that in the world of Jesus\, a vine lives only in utter dependence on the gardener. To “abide” is not passive withdrawal\, but active\, trusting attachment — a daily choosing to remain in the life of God.\nAmong blossom and unfolding leaves\, we will reflect on the difference between fruitfulness and busyness\, between striving and staying. There will be guided meditation\, unhurried silence\, and space to consider the quiet “yes” that shapes a faithful life.\nIn the stillness of Rydal’s beauty\, may we discover again that growth begins in remaining — and that love\, patiently received\, bears its own gentle fruit.
