SUMMARY:Evening meditation at The Abbey\, Sutton Courtenay
DESCRIPTION:Heartfulness Meditation\nEvery Wednesday 07:15pm to 08:00pm\n\nWe’re delighted to host a weekly Heartfulness Meditation session in our beautiful Library. \nThese sessions are always free of charge and you can also continue at home with support. Available now in 160 countries worldwide supported by volunteers.  Heartfulness meditation is based on ancient Raj Yoga but simplified for the times we live in. At its core is the soft and subtle energy of yogic transmission. It helps to clear the weight of the day and to relax into the meditation. \nFind out more from rosalindpearmain@heartfulness.uk or www.heartfulness.org.

SUMMARY:Leadership retreat at the Royal Foundation of St Katharine
DESCRIPTION:The Strengths of a Leader: Residential Retreat with Roger Bretherton\n\n16th July 2026 – 17th July 2026\n\n\nThe Strengths of a Leader A Two-Day Senior Leadership Residential Retreat with Dr Roger Bretherton\nThe Strengths of a Leader\nA Two-Day Senior Leadership Residential Retreat with Dr Roger Bretherton \nThe Royal Foundation of St Katharine have been working with the School of Psychology at the University of Lincoln to co-create a strengths-based retreat for senior leaders. This two-day residential retreat will draw upon Character Strengths Psychology to provide evidence-based insights and practical exercises on how to lead authentically and effectively. It will introduce the 24 positive qualities of character – like wisdom\, self-control\, gratitude and love – shown by thousands of scientific studies to create a flourishing life and productive work\, and demonstrate how using our own unique character strengths can change not only our mood state\, but the whole social system in which we lead.

SUMMARY:Julian of Norwich retreat at the House of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:How to live a life without worry in a worrying world: a showing of Love in troubled times\n\nFri\, 17 Jul 202619:00  Sun\, 19 Jul 202615:00\nThe House of Prayer (map)\n\n\nLed by Dr Stefan Gillow Reynolds \nThe Mysticism of Julian of Norwich \nJulian of Norwich was a solitary from late fourteenth century\, living through a time of epidemic (the Black Death)\, social upheaval (the Peasant’s Revolt) and repeated military conflict (the Hundred Years War) – a time of uncertainty not unlike our own and yet she had a message of hope and reassurance. This weekend retreat will look at the Sixteen ‘Showings’ or ‘Revelations’ she received as a young woman and her reflection on their meaning during the time of voluntary ‘lockdown’ as an Anchoress that she chose afterwards. We will explore how the meaning she distills is very helpful and relevant for us today – teaching us how to trust that ‘All will be well.’ \nArrive in time for supper at 7pm on Friday and depart by 3pm on Sunday.

SUMMARY:Poetry retreat at Hilfield Friary
DESCRIPTION:We shall be looking at the work of English-language poets of the 20th and 21st centuries who write from within or in relation to a Christian faith. We will think about how\, if at all\, faith informs the work of a poet\, especially when the work is not overtly about that faith. Poets whose work we’ll be discussing are likely to include W H Auden (1907-1973)\, Norman Nicholson (1914-1987)\, Denise Levertov (1923-1997)\, Elizabeth Jennings (1926-2001)\, U A Fanthorpe (1929-2009)\, Geoffrey Hill (1932-2016)\, Mary Oliver (1935-2019)\, Les Murray (1938-2019)\, David Scott (1947-2022)\, Gillian Allnutt (1949-)\, Philip Gross (1952-)\, John Burnside (1955-2024)\, Michael Symmons Roberts (1963-)\, and Rachel Mann (1970-). \nIn contrast to previous poetry weekends we will not be making an in-depth study of any single poet but thinking together about the connections between faith and poetry. Do they share a common impulse? Is all poetry implicitly religious? I shall bring copies of several poems to discuss but invite you\, if you are able\, to bring a poem that speaks to you to add to the mix. \nThe suggested donation for the weekend is £160 to include all food and accommodation. \n\n\n\n\nPlease contact Suzi to check availability and avoid disappointment before registering for the weekend. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Online meditation with the School of Contemplative Life
DESCRIPTION:Meditation in the Christian tradition is an ancient and simple way of prayer. \nOur purpose is to teach meditation as a simple path to peace\, community and oneness. Our vision is to help people establish peace in themselves and become places of peace in the world. \nEach session includes a short talk\, a period of silent meditation practice (preceded by some basic guidelines for anyone who is new)\, and an opportunity for conversation afterwards. \nThe sessions are guided by Chris Whittington. Chris spent a period of formation at Prinknash Abbey Benedictine Monastery and is the Founder of The School of Contemplative Life. \nYou don’t need to bring anything – just yourself. Try to find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed.

SUMMARY:Turning towards God course day at Sarum College
DESCRIPTION:Eyes to See: Turning towards God course\n\nMetanoia\, the invitation into a relationship with God that changes everything\, has been accepted in ways that have truly shaped history. In this course\, we will explore the trajectory of that relationship in the lives of four visionary figures: Francis and Clare of Assisi\, Dorothy Day and Oscar Romero. Each of these figures had to make challenging decisions and found meaning and fulfillment with each new step toward partnership with God. We will use the book Faces of Metanoia\, with its reflective prompts\, to guide and shape our conferences and quiet times. We will begin with dinner and an evening conference defining metanoia and exploring what transformation looks like. On the following day\, we will hold up moments of decision and change in each of these four lives\, exploring how we\, too\, have experienced some of these moments\, and considering God’s call to metanoia today. No previous knowledge required
