SUMMARY:Creative Repair day at Sarum College
DESCRIPTION:Creative Repair\n\nParticipants will be introduced to the theory and practice of Creative Repair\, a concept presented in my recently published book: ‘Creative Repair – Pastoral care and creativity’ (SCM 2023). There will be periods of reflection and silence and participants are invited to bring materials to practise their own creativity. There will be a mixture of tutor presentation and group work. Creative Repair will be considered as part of a rule of life. One or two case studies will be discussed\, allowing participants to reflect on their own pastoral settings. There will be an opportunity to reflect on work/life balance. As a group analyst\, I will encourage an interactive style of teaching and learning and thus be open to questions and ideas from everyone present. It is not necessary to have studied this before. All aspects of creativity will be considered

SUMMARY:Pre-Advent retreat at Sarum College
DESCRIPTION:The Gift of Rest for Christmas: Renew your energy for life through intentional and effective rest\n\nThe course will help you discover the sort of rest you might need right now; physical\, mental\, emotional\, social or spiritual. You will have the chance to reflect on what you already know is restful for you and expand upon those ideas. Learning the art of intentional and effective rest. \nAlso\, we will consider what a healthy rhythm of work and rest might look like for you in this season of the year and in this season of life. We will explore what might be stopping you stopping\, what it is that keeps you working when you really need to pause and rest and what makes rest easier for you. \nThere will also be an opportunity to seek God’s heart for rest for us and you will be encouraged to listen for what God’s invitation to you to rest may be in the weeks and months to come.

SUMMARY:Conference for Spiritual Directors at Sarum College
DESCRIPTION:Conference for Spiritual Directors \nVoices\, visions and dreams are part of the lived Christian experience. Scripture is abundant with such accounts. Mystics\, saints and theologians add to this canon of mystical experience\, showing us the explicit and intimate presence of God in their lives. \nIn the contemporary world encounter with the Divine is sometimes approached with caution. Is this person well? Are these voices real? What alternative explanations may there be for such visions and dreams? But what if God really does speak to those who might be willing to listen? What happens if we acknowledge that God is not an abstract concept\, but a real presence in our everyday lives? What happens (to paraphrase Robert Marsh) if we offer Spiritual Accompaniment ‘as if God were real’? \nThis conference invites Spiritual Directors to explore how voices\, vision and dreams ‘show up’ in Spiritual Accompaniment. We will consider our disposition to mystical experiences and how we might invite these into the conversation. With creative approaches and expert speakers including Rev Prof Chris Cook\, Dr Lisa Cornwell\, Dr Michael Hahn and Bruce Stanley we will explore how we can safely navigate dialogue that enables individuals to explore and make sense of their inner world and encounters with the Divine as a natural and enriching part of their Christian life.
