Membership of APR is open to individuals, parishes and other groups, and retreat centres themselves. Your support, whether through membership subscription or donation, helps us to raise awareness of the value of retreats, within the Church and beyond.

Thanks to the generosity of our members, we are able to:

  • Support the work of more than 80 retreat houses in the UK and beyond
  • Promote over 50 individual Quiet Days and Retreats each month
  • Support 60-70 people in financial hardship to go on retreat at one of our member houses every year through our Bursary Fund
  • Offer training, events and access to useful resources to all our members.

Membership for Organisations

As an APR Member House, we will promote your work through our website, social media and other publications, and can offer bursaries to your guests in financial hardship through our Bursary Fund. Most importantly, we will support your work through regular and ongoing prayer.

Your subscription includes:

  • A free listing in the directory section of the Retreat Association’s annual Retreats Handbook
  • A free copy of the Retreats Handbook, packed with articles and reviews, plus listings for over 170 retreat centres
  • Your own pin on the interactive map on our website
  • Regular promotion of your events through social media and our website
  • Twice-yearly colour Newsletter
  • Advance information and discounts on APR’s own retreats and quiet days
  • A contribution paid on your behalf to the work of the Retreat Association
  • Discounted rates for advertising with the Retreat Association
  • Regular news and offers from the Retreat Association

In addition, APR offers bursaries for guests who might otherwise not be able to afford the whole cost of a visit to you.

Subscription Rates

The APR Trustees are committed to keeping subscriptions for member retreat venues as low as possible. Our rates are scaled to the size of your centre, as follows:

• Large (20+ beds) £100
• Medium (7-19 beds) £60
• Small (non-residential or up to 6 beds) £40
• Independent Retreat Leader £50

Membership for Individuals

As an individual or group member of the APR, you will be supporting our mission of promoting the work of retreat houses and retreat givers through our newsletters, website and social media presence.

We welcome additonal donations to help make retreats accessible to more people through our Bursary Fund.

Your subscription includes:

  • A free copy of the annual Retreats Handbook (produced by the Retreat Association), with numerous articles and reviews, plus listings for over 170 retreat centres
  • Twice-yearly colour Newsletter
  • Advance information and discounts on APR’s own retreats and quiet days
  • A contribution paid on your behalf to the work of the Retreat Association
  • Regular news and offers from the Retreat Association

Friends of APR

The Friends of APR, are a group of generous donors, who each offer an extra £20 (or more) every year to directly support our Bursary Fund, which in turn helps fund retreats for people who would otherwise be unable to afford the full cost.

If you would like to become a Friend, please check the appropriate box on the application form. If you would like to upgrade an existing subscription, please contact the APR Administrator directly.

Subscription Rates
  • Individual member £30
  • Concession (elective rate for the unwaged and those on smaller incomes) £25
  • Parish/group/community £35 (this includes 2 copies of the Retreats Handbook)
  • Friend of APR £50 (this includes a £20 donation to our Bursary Fund)

Please Donate to Support the Work of APR

We keep APR subscription rates as low as possible in order to encourage more people to become and remain members. Whilst membership subscriptions help to finance our core work, we are especially grateful for additional donations and bequests, which allow us to do even more to promote retreats.

Such generosity has enabled us to run the Bursary Fund, which helps our member retreat centres offer retreats for people who may not otherwise be able to afford the full cost. We also organise very successful large-scale diocesan conferences, and encourage people at the start of their ministry with a period of complimentary membership.

Ways to Support APR

If you are able to make a regular donation to APR’s work, you could add this to your annual subscription.

For one-off donations, either to our general fund or to our Bursary Fund, please use the PayPal button below or, if you would rather send a cheque, please make this payable to ‘Association for Promoting Retreats’, adding ‘Bursary Fund’ if applicable, and send to our office address.

Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer, please consider Gift Aiding your donation. We are able to claim an additional 25% from HMRC on top of your donation, at no extra cost to you. All you need to do is complete our online Gift Aid Form (or download and return a paper Gift Aid declaration form) and we’ll take care of the rest.
